1. Why get a Mnova Campus License?

2. My department is small, are there options for less than 150 users?

3. I’m interested but I’m not sure if my department will approve this purchase.

4. Students are using Windows, macOS, and some Linux. Is this an issue?

Not at all. Mnova is fully OS-independent, ensuring seamless access and a consistent experience across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

5. Is there any physical shipment?

No, Mnova is delivered electronically.

6. How to manage Mnova Campus licenses and how can I know who is using the Campus license?

Campus licenses are managed through the Mnova License Server. As a license administrator, you can control access to Mnova by allowing or restricting specific users via the License Server Graphical User Interface. This gives you full visibility over who is using the software.

The server automatically registers each client machine the first time it connects by running Mnova, helping you keep track of active users.

7. This looks like it will be a nightmare to administer…?

Not at all. The MLicServer simply needs to be installed on a server within your University. This machine should have internet access at all times.

The MLicServer is developed in-house and designed to be easy to install and maintain, and it can be deployed on both Windows and Linux systems.

From an administration perspective, it is largely hands-off: users automatically renew their licenses every 90 days, and if they don’t, the license is released and becomes available for another user—no manual intervention required.

8. So, after installing Mnova on their laptops, will students be able to use Mnova at home?

Yes, users can install and use Mnova on their personal computers both on campus and off campus, at home or while travelling.

Each time the client connects to the server, a 90-day usage period is refreshed, allowing continued use of the software without an active connection during that time.

9. Is there any way to restrict or ban specific users?

Yes, within the Mnova Campus License Server model, the License Server Administrator has several ways to control access. Specific machines can be removed if licenses need to be reallocated, allowing you to circumvent the standard 90-day period when necessary.

In addition, users can be restricted based on their username, computer name, or IP address, providing more granular control over who can access the licenses.

10. What happens when a student leaves the University?

If a student does not access Mnova from the campus network for more than 3 months, their license is automatically released and can be reassigned to another student, ensuring efficient use of the available licenses.

11. Is a Campus license the same as concurrent/floating licenses?

No, it’s not the same. The Campus license has one fundamental advantage over the concurrent license: The license is set up in such way that a client machine can validate and then disconnect and continue to run the software for up to 90 days without seeing the server. This is very convenient for people to be able to use the software away from site (at conferences, home during summer recess or at PhD writing time). Another advantage is that should a user leave with a machine, they would automatically lose use of the software and release the installation after 90 days.
