Standardizing HPLC-UV Method Sharing: The Pistoia Alliance Methods Database Pilot

The Pistoia Alliance’s Methods Database Project addresses a longstanding challenge in analytical science by developing a standardized, vendor-independent format for the digital exchange of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) methods. Using the Allotrope Framework and our Data Platform, the project enables machine-readable and semantically consistent method transfer between different Chromatographic Data Systems (CDS), in alignment with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles.

A pilot implementation at Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC and GSK successfully demonstrated the two-way exchange of standardized HPLC instructions across different instruments and sites. This confirmed the technical feasibility of digital method sharing and laid the groundwork for broader adoption.
